Collard Greens & Ham Hocks
Sweet and easy slow cooker meal!

Ingredients

  • (2 pounds) collard greens washed and cut
  • (2) Smoked Pork Hocks (cooked, uncured)
  • (1) yellow onion chopped
  • (1 tablespoon) minced garlic
  • (2) jalapeno peppers chopped
  • (1 teaspoon) seasoning salt
  • (1 teaspoon) black pepper
  • (2 tablespoons) apple cider vinegar
  • (8 cups) water

Directions

  1. Place the ham hocks, onions, garlic, and peppers into the slow cooker, then pour in 8 cups of water.
  2. Put the lid on the slow cooker and set on high for 6 hours.
  3. After 4 hours the ham hocks should be tender and falling off of the bone. Start adding in the collard greens.
  4. Sprinkle in the salt & pepper and add in the apple cider vinegar. Give everything a stir, then let cook for two more hours.
  5. Serve and enjoy!


To Freeze and Cook Later:

Add all ingredients except collard greens to gallon sized freezer bag.

Store greens in separate freezer bag or keep in pantry/refrigerator until cooking day. Label and freeze.


To Cook:

Let thaw overnight then pour contents of gallon-sized freezer bag into slow cooker and add 8 cups of water. Cook on high for 4 hours.

After 4 hours when ham hocks become tender and start falling off the bone add collard greens.

Sprinkle in the salt and pepper and add in the apple cider vinegar. Give everything a stir, then let cook for two more hours.
