Sasso Chickens:Quality Country-Chicken Broilers

Sasso chickens are known for their excellent meat quality. They are heavy-bodied, with long keels and lighter, speckled feathers, known for their yellow skin and great flavor. Their flesh is tender and flavorful. This feature makes them highly sought after in both commercial markets and home kitchens. When you choose a Sasso chicken, you ensure a premium product that can enhance your culinary offerings.

The Jackie Chicken: A Country Broiler

We’re happy to provide these meaty, slow-growing broilers to you – straight from our family’s farm.  These crossbred, slow-growing, heavy-bodied, red broilers have been developed to have a longer keel and to provide more of a “country chicken” feel. Jackie's reach market weight more slowly than others, by 11-13 weeks of age.

Sami’s FFA Project:

Hi, I’m Sami Risen and I am a student at Mondovi High School. I have been an active member of the Mondovi FFA for the past 4 years, and part of that includes having an “SAE” (Supervised agricultural experience) project. My SAE is poultry production, which is how I created Rise’n Shine poultry. For the past two summers I have been raising meat birds as well as taking care of my flock of laying hens. My meat birds are “rangers”, which is a type of chicken that does best in a free-range environment,  a healthy alternative to the fast-growing white broiler chickens. These ranger-types  are also known for their friendly and curious temperament, which makes them easy to handle and interact with.  My chickens are raised having access to lots of yard-space to spend their days roaming in the sunshine, scratching and pecking, giving them access to a natural and diverse diet. It is so rewarding seeing the chickens grow from small chicks into large, healthy birds. Raising these meat birds has taught me a lot about responsibility and problem solving. I have to keep their feed and water full, and the coops clean all summer. This spring I received the 1st place award for poultry production at our chapter FFA banquet for my work with these meat birds. I hope you enjoy eating the birds as much as I enjoyed raising them! Thank you for supporting my poultry project! :)
