If you’ve ever tried to scoop lard out of a container and ended up with greasy fingers, a greasy spoon and a greasy counter well then hello, you’re home.
Our Together Farms Lard Cooking Stick is single-ingredient, 100% rendered pork lard packaged in a push-up paper tube to make greasing pans ridiculously easy. No scooping. No cutting chunks off with a knife. No oily fingerprints on everything in your kitchen. No paper towel. No excess. Just push, swipe around exactly as much as you need and move along.
Lard has a more neutral flavor and a softer mouthfeel than tallow thanks to its lower melting point. It also spreads into corners like it was born for muffin tins. Because it basically was. It’s especially perfect for baking jobs like pie pans, muffin tins and flaky crusts.
Want a higher-heat, more savory option? Check out our Tallow Cooking Stick, it’s 100% grassfed beef tallow and awesome for searing, sautéing and skillet cooking.
Clean ingredients: one ingredient, rendered pork lard, that’s it
No mess: grease the pan, not your counters...no overspray here!
No knives, no drama: safer than slicing off chunks from a tub
Perfect for baking: pie pans, muffin tins, cake pans, loaf pans, sheet pans
Pie crust hero: lard is famous for tender, flaky crusts and biscuits
Neutral flavor: great when you don’t want “beefy” flavor coming through
Budget friendly: no waste, no paper towels, just precision application
Moderate-heat friendly: great up to about 370°F
Most cooking sprays are more than just the terrible “vegetable" oils. Many include propellants and additives (common ones are things like lecithin and silicone-based anti-foaming agents). So if you’re trying to keep ingredients simple and recognizable, this is the easy swap.
Heat your pan (not necessary for baking sheets or muffin tins).
Push up from the bottom to expose a little lard (hard to push-up? pop it in the fridge or freezer for a bit!).
Swipe directly on the surface to coat, especially the corners, keep swiping if you need more!
Put the cap back on, smile at the ease & enjoyment of whole food cooking, and you’re done!
Lard is a stable fat, but like any real food fat it stays freshest when it’s kept cool and protected from heat, light and air. Store capped in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. For the longest freshness (especially if your kitchen runs warm), store it in the refrigerator or freezer. (In general, I tell people to treat it like butter.)
Because pig fat and human skin play surprisingly well together, some folks like using plain lard as a simple moisturizer in a pinch. If you’ve got this stick handy in the kitchen, it can be a quick “my hands are dry” save.
Lips: tap a tiny bit on like a balm
And yes, we make Good Fat Skincare lip balms and salves that are purpose-made for skin using all our animal fats, but if you’re standing in your kitchen with dry hands and this is right here, well, we support efficient living.
Bonus: because our pigs are raised outside on pasture, their lard is full of vitamin D!
